The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel has its roots in England, where it was bred to be a companion dog for royals, particularly during the reign of King Charles II. The breed is named after the king, who was often seen with these dogs. They were originally bred to be lapdogs and hunting companions. The modern version of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel was revived in the 1920s by breeders who sought to restore the breed's appearance to its original form.
Personality and Temperament
- Size: Small, with an average height of 12–13 inches (30–33 cm) at the shoulder.
- Weight: Between 13–18 pounds (6–8 kg).
- Coat: The coat is silky and medium-length, with a slight wave. It comes in four distinct color combinations:
- Blenheim: Chestnut and white.
- Tricolor: Black, white, and tan.
- Black & Tan: Black with tan markings.
- Ruby: Solid chestnut red.
- Face: They have a sweet, expressive face with large, dark eyes and long ears.
- Affectionate: Known for being extremely loving and attached to their owners, Cavaliers are often described as “lap dogs.” They enjoy being around people and are great family pets.
- Friendly: They are social dogs and get along well with other pets and children. They are not known for being aggressive.
- Gentle: Their gentle disposition makes them ideal companions, but they are also energetic and playful when given the opportunity.
